Robby G ( Nobby Guyatt) POSA ex AB Seaman Gunner
Pensioned off 1984. Then a brief spell with the Royal Saudi Navy as a trainer, the most boring and "waste of time job" that I have ever done, money was good though!
Pub trade with Courages & Whitbreads. Pubs included The Plough, Newbury. Green Dragon, Liphook, Brewmaster, Waterlooville (when it was a good pub!) The Star, Haywards Heath and finally The Froddington Arms, Portsmouth.
I took early retirement in 1997 and have been sitting on my fat arse since. Too many pensions forced early retirement, the Tax Man was digging deep. Now, eleven years later, he still requires his gophers to be kept topped up!
I miss, "Blue Liners", The "Tot","ships bikes" (Jenny WRNS) in the bedding store! Officers who know eff all, Lifting my lid, short weekends, Portland work-ups and all those other little things!

On leaving the R.N. and the world of engineering, it was in April of 1982 I turned to pub management and after finishing training with Bill Galbraith and his wife Jean, at the Black Dog at Havant, took the helm of the Park Tavern in Edinburgh Road. A watering hole that had taken many a penny from my pocket over the years. Being next to Ruby in the Royal Standard, saw us becoming the best of friends and neighbours after too, using her pub over the years. I spent nine happy years there, meeting up with many of the members I had served with, and of course meeting new friends. Many a story unravelled over the odd half.
In 1991, I moved on to the Thatched House in Locksway Road, and took early retirement in 1997.
At this point, I didn't know what to do, so decided to go to Thailand for a long holiday while I thought out my future. I had been to Thailand on numerous occasions on holiday while in the pub trade, and felt I could live there a while.
After deciding what to do, I returned to England, sold up, divorced and headed for a new life.I lived in Thailand and there met a lovely lady. I moved on, and today am happily married to that filipina, name of Aileen. We have a son, Allysanver, whose nickname is Boriz, no disrespect to you, Mr Slingsby!!! But that is the life here, and Aileen did not know the REAL Boris Slingsby when adding the nickname.
We live in Metro Manila, called Las Pinas City. Similar to living in the greater London Area. Don't really miss England, though the mates I had are sorely missed. Be nice to hear from them. Over the years, we seem to have drifted apart. I'll update this short note with a longer one, about life here, and wish you all well.
Regards from the Philippines.
